I love you, and I will show you
all the qualities of the island,
the freshwater springs, the salt pools,
the barren soils and the fertile ones.

AFTER THE TEMPEST marks the final stage of a journey that lasted about a year (from July 2022) during which artists, citizens, institutions and companies in the area worked together through meetings, interviews, workshops, and studies of spaces to give life to a large participatory theatrical event, with a low environmental impact, that could represent a new relationship between places, stories and people affected by this recent natural disaster.
A community theatre not to forget, a stimulus to active cultural participation by citizens, an enhancement of the territory’s environmental and artistic heritage, a bridge with and for future generations.

From The Tempest Vaia and its 42 million felled trees to Shakespeare, through the daring reinterpretation of one of the great masterpieces of theatre of all time for a great site-specific staging.
The Tempest, one of Shakespeare’s last works, is in fact an immense hymn to the theatre and its magic in which, evoked in a fairy-tale atmosphere, the ecocentric theme is also very present, the search for the necessary harmony between the human element and the natural element, between civilisation and wild nature, the eternal contrast between good knowledge and the bad customs of men.
A total storm, then, whose profound sense can bring us back to the sense of the biblical ‘Mabul’, that deluge or ‘time of crisis’ that affects everything but from which everything can potentially also be born. A storm that can be punishment but also an opportunity and a lesson.

Very topical themes, at a time like the present, of great emergencies and great confusion, which have led to a scenic rewriting of the Bard’s famous text in which the memory of the facts is an essential part of the narration and the people are placed at the centre of the creative process, in a continuous exchange with the artists involved.
Carlo Sciaccaluga and Elisa D’Andrea, under the artistic direction of the Nogravity4monks collective, which also takes care of the original music, sign the direction of this new adaptation starring Ariel / Laurence Tremblay-Vu, a tightrope walker who plays an 80-metre long amplified cable, accompanied by a quartet of live musicians; Prospero / Angela Baraldi, a singer and actress of exceptional strength; Caliban / Riccardo Rebaudengo, a child accompanied by the children’s choir of the minipolifonici of Trento, who unleashes the naive and primitive energy of childhood.

And then the audience, protagonist in the role of passive observer, antagonist in spite of himself, inert and therefore accomplice to the disaster.
